Day Trip from Giza to Alexandria. We left early in the morning (7:30am) and got in a van with 2 others plus the driver and guide to head out for the day. The drive was 3 hours and while it was fun to look out on the way there, a lot of us napped on the way back. The van did have AC (honestly a must for summer here) and was a comfortable enough ride.
We stop at a few places (order both on the site to book and what I’m putting here may not be the order you do): Alexandria Bibliotheca, Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, Pompey’s Pillar, Ancient Roman Amphitheater, Saint Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Cathedral, Sidi Morsi Abu al-Abbas Mosque, Kayetbai, Al Gomrok,Montazah Gardens.
There were a few things that involved some stairs, and some steep stairs, but they were optional from what I recall. Felt like I was doing lunges up one of the sets of stairs with how tall they were.
It was so cool to get to see some of the old ruins of things, the gorgeous Mosque, and the new library. We LOVE the ocean so we actually were really said we only did a day trip here and if I ever go back I would probably stay here in Alexandria. Our guide also said you truly need 2-3 days to experience Alexandria fully.

On the drive in we also got photobombed by some people walking (some things are the same no matter where you go).
We also kept joking (sort of joking) that to truly round out our Egypt trip we would have to go to the British Museum but there truly were a few signs that were saying if you saw a certain artifact that they had ‘lost’ then to let them know and they specifically called out the US and UK in one of them. There were a lot of things that tour guides everywhere would point out and go ‘but this part is missing because it’s in the British museum.’
So how long should you stay in Alexandria? Or should you stay in Alexandria instead of Cairo? Obviously that’s up to you but if you love ocean cities then I do recommend Alexandria. There also seemed to be way less people in general even though it is also a big city. I think the pyramids could definitely be done in a day trip if you plan to just hit the main ones.
This tour did also come with lunch (the one we booked). It was a nice restaurant with a gorgeous view. They even brought our country flags out to set on the table which was really cute.
